I actually read the sequel first (Marooned in Realtime) and liked it a lot without realizing it came after this book. The two take place in the same world but can be read in either order. This book has a long, slow start but really picks up halfway through and has a great climax. It felt a bit disjointed jumping from one scene to the next; you are often dropped into the middle of a new situation without direct context. It’s also possible I wasn’t focused enough during the first half and had more uninterrupted reading time in the second half.
There’s a very competent antagonist, which I love in a novel. And the technology which appears in both books is such a cool concept.
