Definitely some slow parts, but I realized partway through that reading this series is probably the best way to get to know Martian geography. I’ve got stories and characters to hang onto geographic features like “Hellas Planitia” and “Valles Marineris”.
Aside from that, plenty of hard sci-fi and large-scale political drama. The plot combines science, politics inseparably. Deeper looks into several characters (Maya, Michel, Sax, Nadia). And world-changing setpiece events, like in the last book. I’m still not a fan of the aerophany/viriditas relgion Robinson’s trying to cook up here. It seems a little forced and pointless.
