This is by far the most meandering and unfocused book of the trilogy. But it’s mostly because it has so many interesting ideas going on. The scope of the novel continues ramping up exponentially, surpassing even Guran Lagan. It ends with another interesting take on the prisoner’s dilemma that was started in the second book. I found this book very depressing as it reached further and further into the future, as it deals with very existential questions about possible meaning for life and civilization.
